Case study of AC adapter for industrial equipment

This page introduces custom development examples of AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount and switching power supplies for industrial equipment. Our company specializes in meeting detailed customer needs, offering customizations for industrial equipment such as enhanced performance beyond standards and custom DC plugs.

In recent years, the number of customers switching from open-frame (built-in type) power supplies to AC adapters has been increasing due to the desire to miniaturize devices.

When it comes to industrial equipment, rather than focusing on issues such as the acquisition status of CB reports and safety standards or the ability to meet various regulations, we often receive inquiries requesting performance and functions that exceed standards, due to the variety of environments in which the equipment is used.

The applications vary widely, including measuring instruments and analyzers, and the requirements also vary, such as requesting custom labels or DC plugs.

Addressing Noise Issues

In cases where the application is an analyzer, it may be installed in environments such as laboratories, where many other devices are placed nearby. In such cases, noise can become an issue. If the device is already completed and internal adjustments are not possible, the AC adapter becomes the point of improvement. Therefore, we propose noise countermeasures such as changing MOS, Y capacitors, and line filters, or installing ferrite beads. For customers who do not wish to change internal components of the AC adapter, we have also suggested attaching ferrite cores to the DC cord. Installing ferrite cores can also depend on positioning, so a cut-and-try approach is sometimes needed to determine the most effective placement.

Adjusting Cable Lengths and Enhancing Durability

When using measuring instruments on factory lines, we also receive inquiries requesting longer AC or DC cords than usual due to reasons such as ensuring the power supply and safe use of the AC adapter body. Furthermore, for DC cords, there are also requests to switch to cables with better bending durability. While it is possible to extend the AC side, extending the DC side can lead to voltage drops and reduced efficiency. In such cases, we respond while considering the operating range of the device and coordinating with relevant safety standards of the customer's destination country, if necessary.

For bending durability, we suggest changing from parallel double wires to round wires, or for even higher demands, although it may depend on MOQ and pricing, we can offer custom solutions.
