Case study of AC adapter for industrial equipment
This page introduces custom development cases of AC adapters and switching power supplies for industrial equipment. We specialize in meeting detailed customer needs, offering customization for industrial equipment such as requiring performance beyond standards or customizing DC plugs.
In recent years, the number of customers switching from open frame (built-in type power supplies) to AC adapters has been increasing due to the demand for miniaturization of devices.
For industrial equipment, rather than focusing on issues such as obtaining CB reports or safety certifications and whether they can comply with each standard, we receive more inquiries requesting higher performance and functionality beyond the standards due to the variety of environments in which the equipment is used.
The applications vary, including measuring instruments and analyzers. Customer requirements also vary, such as customizing labels or DC plugs.
Addressing Noise Issues
When the application is for analyzers, the equipment may be installed in environments like laboratories, where many other devices are placed nearby. In such cases, noise can become a significant issue. If the equipment has already been completed and internal adjustments are not possible, it becomes necessary to address this via the AC adapter. Therefore, we propose countermeasures such as changing the MOS, Y capacitors, or line filters, or attaching ferrite beads. For customers who prefer not to change the internal components of the AC adapter, we have also suggested attaching ferrite cores to the DC cable. Since the placement of the ferrite core affects performance, a cut-and-try approach may be required to determine the most effective location.
Adjusting Cable Length and Enhancing Durability
When measuring instruments are used on factory lines and similar settings, we receive inquiries requesting longer AC or DC cords than standard to ensure power supply and safe use of the AC adapter. Additionally, we receive inquiries about switching to DC cables with better flex durability. It is possible to extend the AC side, but extending the DC side can result in voltage drop or reduced efficiency. In such cases, we respond while considering the operational range of the equipment and coordinating with the safety standards of the destination country as requested by the customer.
Regarding flex durability, we propose changes from parallel wires to round cables. If further requirements are needed, we can accommodate with custom solutions, although this may depend on MOQ and costs.
