Development case of AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount for electric fans for Europe

The production site used Chinese EMS, and the product was to be delivered to Europe together with the fan. The first thing we checked was how the customer's specific power requirements and conformity with technical safety standards would be handled.

As a result of our checks, the biggest issue was obtaining safety certification. For this application, obtaining EN60335 was required. However, IEC/EN60335, depending on the certification body, generally cannot be obtained for standalone AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount. The best approach was for the customer to have the AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount evaluated together with the appliance.

In addition, for the combined evaluation under EN60335, it was required to submit CB certification that the standalone AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount meets the requirements of EN61558. This was due to the fact that the transformer used in combination with the appliance is subject to the structural requirements of IEC/EN61558. Since our AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount uses a transformer, we decided to obtain IEC/EN61558 certification and declare CE compliance from the perspective of guaranteeing the Products.

The customer also successfully passed the EN60335 set evaluation and we were able to deliver the requested AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount.

In this case, we designed the AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount to meet the requirements of EN61558 while also anticipating compliance with the structural requirements of IEC60335, and obtained certification accordingly.

If there had been a single misstep in the initial checks, certification would have been delayed. However, thanks to close initial communication with the customer, the development was completed smoothly.

In countries that are not members of the IEC, even more complex protocols may apply. At our company, we have extensive experience with handling various requirements for Products designed for such countries as well.
