About Custom Designs

We receive many requests from customers who want custom-designed AC/DC Power Adapter that match the design of their Products.

At UNIFIVE, our Products are made to order, and we can provide semi-custom solutions for each model on a project-by-project basis. We therefore do our utmost to accommodate such requests. Depending on the specifications, certain conditions may apply. Even with these conditions, however, most customers are ultimately satisfied, and we have fulfilled a wide variety of custom design requests.

However, the required safety standards and technical criteria vary depending on the type and intended use of the customer's equipment. It is therefore necessary to select a compatible AC/DC Power Adapter.

From UNIFIVE's design perspective, "safety first" takes priority over the price or appearance of an AC/DC Power Adapter, and its design must inevitably come afterward. Our objective is to achieve both "safety first" from UNIFIVE's engineering perspective and the "custom design" requested by the customer. The challenges involved in custom designs are not limited to the "design appeal of the Products." As described above, they may also introduce other risks. In many cases, we address these risks through discussions with the customer and develop custom power supplies that make the requested design feasible.

Examples of Custom Design Solutions

Case Study 1: Creating a Design That Resembles an Interior Accessory

Company A considered the design of its own Products to be its highest priority. The company contacted us because it wanted to design a Products, including the AC/DC Power Adapter, that would perfectly match its product concept while satisfying safety standards. We informed the customer of the clearances and spaces required for the internal circuit board to comply with safety standards. The customer designed the appearance and enclosure of the AC/DC Power Adapter, as well as the grip section of a proprietary DC plug designed to prevent incorrect insertion. We then collaborated on the Product Design.

In this case, the customer covered the cost of molds for components such as the case enclosure and the resin grip section of the DC plug, as well as safety standards evaluation and design and development expenses. The customer was extremely satisfied because it was able to package and sell its own Products with a truly unique AC/DC Power Adapter unlike any other in the world.

Case Study 2: Creating Color Variations for an AC/DC Power Adapter

A home appliance manufacturer consulted us because its appliance was white and it wanted the enclosure and DC cord of the UNIFIVE AC/DC Power Adapter it planned to use to match that color. The customer also had a gray product and wanted two versions, one white and one gray. By adjusting the colorant mixed into the enclosure's resin material, we retained the enclosure's flame-retardant rating. Similarly, by changing the colorant without changing the flame retardant used in the sheath of the DC cord, we were able to produce two color variations while maintaining flame resistance.

Case Study 3: Creating a Custom Design for Products Packaging and Other Individual Packaging

Portable charging AC/DC Power Adapter rated at 12V, 24V, and other voltages are commonly sold by various companies at consumer electronics retailers. A customer selling these types of 12V and 24V charging AC/DC Power Adapter consulted us because it needed to change the individual packaging design of its AC/DC Power Adapter before selling them at retail stores. (For customers selling chargers, the blister pack and backing card can have a major impact on product sales.)

The customer designed the blister pack and packaging, consisting of a plastic individual packaging box and the backing card placed inside it. We then created the molds for the backing card and plastic packaging case.

As a result, the customer was able to launch the Products with exactly the design it wanted and was highly satisfied.
