About Original Designs

"I would like to create an original design for the AC/DC Power Adapter..."

We have received many requests from customers who want an original design AC/DC Power Adapter in relation to the design of their Products.

At UNIFIVE, our Products are made to order, and each model can be handled on a semi-custom basis per project. Therefore, we strive to accommodate such requests as much as possible. Of course, certain conditions may apply depending on the details. Even so, in most cases we are able to achieve a result that satisfies our customers, realizing a wide variety of original design requests.

However, depending on the type and intended use of the customer's equipment, the applicable technical standards for required safety certifications differ. Therefore, a compatible AC/DC Power Adapter must be selected accordingly.

From UNIFIVE's design perspective, for an AC/DC Power Adapter, "safety first" is prioritized over price or appearance, and design inevitably comes afterward. We must balance the "safety first" principle from our engineering standpoint with the customer's desire for an "original design." Challenges related to original designs involve not only the "product design" itself but may also create other risks as mentioned above. Based on discussions with our customers, we often develop custom power supplies to achieve feasible original designs while addressing such risks.

Examples of Original Design Support

Case 1: Wanting a design like interior decor

Company A considered the design of its own Products to be the top priority. They contacted us wanting to design their Products, including the AC/DC Power Adapter, to perfectly match their product image while also satisfying safety standards. We informed the customer of the necessary distances and spacing required on the internal circuit board to comply with safety standards. The customer then designed the exterior housing of the AC/DC Power Adapter, the outer casing, and the grip portion of a proprietary DC plug designed to prevent incorrect insertion. We worked together to complete the product design.

In this case, the customer covered the costs of molds for parts such as the outer casing and the resin grip of the DC plug, as well as safety certification evaluation fees and design and development costs. As a result, they were able to sell their Products bundled with a one-of-a-kind AC/DC Power Adapter available nowhere else in the world, which greatly satisfied the customer.

Case 2: Wanting color variations for the AC/DC Power Adapter

A home appliance manufacturer consulted us because their own Products was white. They asked whether the exterior housing and DC cord of the AC/DC Power Adapter from UNIFIVE, which they planned to adopt, could also be made white to match. Additionally, since their product line also included gray, they wanted two color options: white and gray. By adjusting the colorant mixed into the resin material of the housing, we maintained the flame-retardant grade of the housing. Similarly, for the DC cord, we changed the colorant without altering the flame-retardant properties of the outer coating, enabling two different color variations while maintaining flame resistance.

Case 3: Wanting to change the design of product packaging (individual packaging) to an original design

At consumer electronics retailers, 12V and 24V charging AC/DC Power Adapter for portable use are often sold by various companies. A customer selling such 12V and 24V charging AC/DC Power Adapter consulted us because they needed to change the individual packaging design of the AC/DC Power Adapter for retail sales. (For customers selling chargers, the blister packaging and backing card significantly influence product sales.)

The customer designed the blister and packaging (the plastic individual box and the backing card inserted inside), and we created the molds for the backing card and the individual plastic case to support their request.

As a result, they were able to launch the Products on the market with the design they desired, and they were very satisfied.
