A device used to protect components and equipment from high voltages such as lightning strikes. It normally has high insulation resistance under standard voltage conditions, but its resistance decreases when a certain threshold voltage is exceeded. By utilizing this characteristic and installing it between the protected components or equipment and the ground, high voltages such as lightning surges are diverted to the ground, thereby preventing damage.
