Inverter type

This method converts the input 4 (3) times and outputs as follows

  1. Converts commercial power or other AC input to DC
    (or starts with DC)
  2. Converts to high-frequency AC using an inverter
  3. Changes the voltage using a transformer
  4. Converts to DC using a rectifier circuit

Since the process involves a transformer in step 3, it allows for isolation between input and output, as well as the advantage of changing the voltage level arbitrarily.
