ESD

A discharge of high voltage, several thousand volts, caused by static electricity. It occurs when electric charge accumulates on substances that easily become charged due to friction, etc. It tends to occur more easily under certain weather conditions, such as low humidity in winter. ESD can cause malfunctions or failures in electrical and electronic circuits. Countermeasures include grounding, controlling humidity, and generating ions to eliminate static charge.
