fuse

A component that protects an electric circuit from overcurrent. It has a structure with a conductive alloy placed between two electrodes. Each type of fuse has a specified current limit, and when the current exceeds this value, the internal alloy melts due to Joule heat and interrupts the circuit. Unlike circuit breakers, it does not have repeated breaking capability and is disposable.
