Protection function

In power equipment, this refers to a function that detects abnormal conditions of the device and performs protective actions. Abnormalities in the device itself that are detected may include overvoltage or overcurrent on the input or output side. Abnormalities in the operating environment of the device may include abnormal temperature or humidity. When an abnormality is detected, the system may stop (or limit) the input or output, or it may notify by triggering an alarm. Depending on the operating environment of the equipment and the anticipated abnormalities, multiple protection functions are often installed.
