Protection function
In power supply equipment, this refers to the function that detects abnormal conditions in the device and performs protective actions. Abnormalities detected in the device itself include overvoltage and overcurrent on the input or output side. Abnormalities in the operating environment include temperature and humidity irregularities. When an abnormality is detected, either the input or output may be stopped (or limited), or an alarm may be triggered to provide notification. In many cases, multiple protection functions are installed in consideration of the device's operating environment and the anticipated abnormalities.
