core

A ferromagnetic component placed at the center of the winding to enhance the magnetizing effect of a coil or transformer. In a transformer, it serves to transfer energy from the primary side to the secondary side, and thus has a square ring-shaped structure, also known as a core. In switching power supplies, soft magnetic materials with low hysteresis loss are used. There are materials mainly composed of metal and those mainly composed of metal oxides.
