Outpatient surgery

Electrical and electronic devices are subjected to abnormal voltages caused by externally generated surges. There are two main causes: switching surges that occur in the AC power circuit on the power supply side and enter via power lines, and lightning surges caused by lightning strikes that enter via grounding. An effective countermeasure against incoming surges is the installation of a varistor. A varistor has high insulation resistance under normal voltage, but when the voltage exceeds a certain level, its resistance decreases, allowing it to divert surge voltage and protect the equipment.
