Outpatient surgery
When electrical and electronic equipment is subjected to abnormal voltage caused by an externally generated surge. The causes include two types: a switching surge generated in an AC power circuit on the power supply side, which enters via the power lines, and a lightning surge caused by a lightning strike, which enters via the ground. An effective countermeasure against external surges is the installation of a varistor. A varistor has high insulation resistance under normal voltage, but when the voltage exceeds a certain level, its resistance drops, allowing it to bypass the surge voltage and protect the equipment.
