Harmonics
Alternating currents other than sine wave AC are called distorted waves, and consist of the fundamental sine wave and harmonics. Harmonics consist of many sine waves whose frequencies are integer multiples of the fundamental frequency, and can be obtained mathematically by Fourier series expansion. Harmonics often adversely affect equipment as noise. Therefore, by determining the frequencies of the harmonics, they can be removed using filter circuits that have characteristics to attenuate those frequencies.
UNIFIVE offers AC/DC Power Adapter and switching power supplies that comply with the new harmonic current standards promoted by the Japan Lighting Manufacturers Association.
