Surge tolerance

The limit at which electrical and electronic devices or components can operate normally without malfunction or failure under repeated external surges. It is often expressed as the surge current value generated when surge voltage is applied. If the expected external surge current exceeds this value, surge protection such as the installation of an arrester or a varistor is required.
