Surge withstand capacity

The limit value at which electrical and electronic equipment or components can operate normally without malfunction or failure against repeated external surges. It is often expressed as the surge current value generated when a surge voltage is applied. If the current caused by an assumed external surge exceeds this value, surge protection measures such as the installation of an arrester or a varistor are required.
