Surge withstand capability

The limit at which electrical and electronic equipment or components can operate normally without malfunction or failure against repeated external surges. It is often expressed as the surge current value generated when a surge voltage is applied. If the current caused by the assumed external surges exceeds this value, surge protection measures such as the installation of arresters or varistors are required.
