Surge tolerance

The limit value at which electrical and electronic devices or components can operate normally without malfunction or failure under repeated external surges. It is often expressed in terms of surge current that occurs when a surge voltage is applied. If the current caused by expected external surges exceeds this value, surge protection such as installing arresters or varistors is necessary.
