Surge voltage resistance

The voltage that indicates the resistance of electrical and electronic components to external surges such as lightning surges and switching surges, allowing them to continue operating normally without failure. It is usually determined from the insulation characteristics when a standard impulse voltage waveform of 1.2×50μs specified in JIS C5442 is applied between two specified points of the component and the voltage is gradually increased. The higher this voltage, the greater the resistance to external surges.
