Surge withstand voltage
The voltage that indicates the resistance of electrical and electronic components to external surges such as lightning surges and switching surges, allowing them to continue operating normally without failure. Typically, this voltage is determined based on insulation characteristics by applying a standard impulse voltage waveform of 1.2×50μs, as specified in JIS C5442, between two specified points of the component and gradually increasing the voltage. The higher this voltage, the greater the resistance to external surges.
