Surge voltage resistance

The voltage that represents the resistance of electrical and electronic components to external surges such as lightning surges and switching surges, allowing them to continue operating normally without failure. Typically, this is determined by applying a standard impulse voltage waveform of 1.2×50μs as specified in JIS C5442 between two specified points on the component, and increasing the voltage to measure its insulation characteristics. The higher this voltage, the greater the resistance to external surges.
