How to Read and Understand the Label on the AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount
This page clearly explains how to read and understand the labels on the surface of the AC adapter described on this page.

How to Read AC Adapter Labels
AC adapter labels contain various pieces of information. There are many types of electrical products in the world, and accordingly, there are various specifications for AC adapters. Depending on these specifications, the label displays also vary widely.
Model Number, Input, Frequency

| - "Model No"
Indicates the model name or type. The "I/P" below it means Input. - "I/P AC100~240V"
Indicates that the adapter supports AC input voltage from 100V to 240V. In Japan, typical household and office outlets provide 100V. In many countries, electric power is supplied within the range of 110V-130V or 220V-240V. Therefore, if the adapter shows "AC100V~240V", it can be used globally, including in Japan. - "50/60Hz"
Indicates multiple rated frequencies. In Japan, there are two frequency regions: eastern Japan uses 50Hz, and western Japan uses 60Hz. - "0.4A"
Indicates the maximum AC input current.
|
Output

| - "O/P"
Means Output. - "O/P:DC5.9V 2.0A"
Indicates a rated output of DC5.9V 2.0A. - "11.8W"
Indicates wattage.
|
LPS

| - "L.P.S"
Refers to a Limited Power Source, meaning a power source with restricted maximum output voltage, current, and rated power. Regulated by IEC60950.
|
Trash Bin Mark

| - Trash Bin Mark
This mark, a crossed-out wheelie bin, is based on the EU WEEE directive announced around 2003. It indicates that the product is intended to be recycled and should not be disposed of in landfill.
|
Safety Standard Marks

| - Safety Standard Marks
Displays compliance with safety marks such as PSE, CE, and UL. For more details, please refer to the dedicated safety regulation page.
|
I.T.E. Power Supply

| - "I.T.E. POWER SUPPLY"
This label, often found near the UL mark, signifies that the power supply is intended for use with information technology equipment, complying with IEC/EN60950. If usable for audio, video, information and communication technology equipment under IEC/EN62368, it is labeled as "AUDIO/VIDEO AND I.T.E POWER SUPPLY". For medical equipment under IEC-60601, the label is "MEDICAL EQUIPMENT".
|
House Mark

| - House Mark
This silhouette of a house means "For indoor use only". Some versions feature an arrow overlapping the house symbol.
|
Double Insulation

| - Double Insulation
This circular symbol indicates double insulation, meaning the product implements both basic and supplementary insulation, or reinforced insulation (IEC safety class II).
|
Plug Polarity

|
This symbol shows the polarity of the DC plug. In this case, the outer diameter is negative, and the inner diameter is positive. This is referred to as center-positive. The following indicates a center-negative plug.
By the way, according to JEITA standards, plugs that correspond to EAIJ are shown with diamond shapes, and others with circular shapes. |
Other Marks and Labels
Other labels and markings may also be present depending on the AC adapter.
Here are some examples.
DC Mark
| Altitude Mark
Indicates a power supply not suitable for use at altitudes above 2000m as per China's GB standard. There are also versions for up to 5000m. |
DIN Mark
Shows the pin assignment configuration of a DIN plug. | PC Recycle Mark
Issued by the PC 3R Promotion Association in Japan. |
Orange Mark
A Chinese RoHS mark indicating the product's environmental usage period (in years). | Stripe
Indicates that the DC cable is cut and untreated. |
Type-C Pin Assignment
Shows the pin assignment for Type-C plugs. | IEC60417-5947 Short-circuit Proof Safety Insulation Transformer
|
GB Standard
Warning label for products intended for use in non-tropical climate conditions. | |
