Open site

An experimental facility used by manufacturers of electrical equipment and others to measure electromagnetic waves emitted from devices during product development. It is installed outdoors and is also used to measure not only the electromagnetic waves emitted by devices but also the effects that external electromagnetic waves have on them. The open site is built based on standards of various countries, which comply with the regulations of the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR). In general, there are three types of measurement distances—3m, 10m, and 30m—depending on the distance between the measuring antenna and the device under test, and it is equipped with facilities such as a turntable, measuring antenna, metal ground plane, and measurement room. In contrast, radio anechoic chambers, which are also used for electromagnetic wave measurements, are used for more advanced measurements that are difficult to perform at an open site.
