CSA

Refers to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). It was established in 1919 as the Canadian Engineering Standards Association and was renamed CSA in 1944. It operates CSA standards, which are Canadian safety standards for electric products, medical devices, machinery, and equipment. Under provincial and territorial laws, or federal law, in all provinces and territories within Canada, equipment used with commercial power sources and gas or oil-fired appliances, which require high safety, are required to meet CSA standards. In the United States, it is regarded as equivalent to UL through coordination with Underwriters Laboratories, which operates UL.
