capacitor

A capacitor consists of a dielectric material sandwiched between two facing parallel electrodes. It is one of the basic and important components that make up switching circuits. Due to its ability to temporarily store electricity, it plays a critical role in smoothing circuits that convert AC to DC. Since it passes AC components and blocks DC components, it is also used as a filter. In AC electrical circuits, because it generates a leading power factor, it is also used as a power factor correction capacitor.
