Overload

A condition in which the output current of a power supply circuit exceeds its rated value. This occurs when a load exceeding the rating is connected. When an overload occurs, overcurrent flows and may cause overheating or burnout of the circuit, leading to possible failure. As a countermeasure, a current protection function is installed to stop the output or limit the current. As a preventive measure, overload can be avoided by carefully calculating the load current at the design stage and designing the circuit with sufficient margin.
