Overvoltage protection

In electrical and electronic circuits, this is a mechanism that, when a detection section on the circuit detects an abnormal voltage exceeding the rated value, shuts off the circuit to stop the output and protect the secondary circuit; it is synonymous with OVP. When the cause of the overvoltage is removed, some systems recover automatically, while others require manual reset after a person confirms safety. Overvoltage protection functions are widely used, from power transmission and distribution circuits that handle large amounts of power to electronic circuits that handle small amounts of power. In power transmission and distribution circuits, overvoltage protection also plays an important role in preventing electrical accidents such as electric shock.
