Switching surge
In AC electric circuits, this phenomenon refers to the momentary generation of an abnormal voltage higher than the rated voltage when a circuit breaker or similar device is switched on or off. When a circuit breaker is switched on or off, it is operated at the zero-voltage point; however, in the case of leading or lagging power factor, it occurs because the current is not zero. Switching surge increases with the load current and may adversely affect the power supply circuit on the load side as noise.
