UL
A non-profit organization established in 1894 by a group of U.S. fire insurance companies. Initially, the main purpose was to protect consumers from fires caused by electrical products and to reduce insurance premiums by establishing safety standards for such products. However, its scope has since expanded to include a wide range of industrial equipment including electrical devices and automotive components. In 2012, it transitioned from a non-profit to a for-profit organization and has been maintaining safety through follow-up services for products. UL standards are widely adopted in electrical and electronic equipment as well.
