About Safety Certifications
What is PSE?
PSE refers to the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. Did you know there are two types of conformity standards (technical benchmarks) under this law?
“Schedule 8-1, 2 (102)” and “Schedule 10, Chapter 5” apply independently to AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount as DC power supply devices. On the other hand, [Schedule 12, Item (J6xxxx)] indicates the required conformity standard number (J-6xxxx-x), depending on the intended use and purpose of the customer's equipment. Under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law, taking appropriate action based on use and purpose is required.
What is a CB REPORT?
A CB REPORT is a test conformance report (certificate) that clears the technical standards designated by the CB Scheme (IEC Electrical Equipment Safety Certification System).
Generally, AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount are often certified with CB REPORTs for “IEC60950 (IT equipment)” or “IEC60065 (AV equipment),” but due to the increasing diversity of modern products, “IEC61558 (household appliances),” “IEC61347 (LED),” and “IEC60601 (medical equipment)” may also be required.
* Currently, “IEC60950 (IT equipment)” and “IEC60065 (AV equipment)” have been integrated into “IEC62368-1 (IT/AV equipment).” What is IEC62368-1?
When expanding to overseas markets, if certifications are required in each country, utilizing CB REPORTs in CB Scheme member countries can exempt products from technical testing for standards already evaluated under the IEC system (international technical benchmarks), simplifying the approval process in the destination country. In addition, if the customer’s end device requires safety evaluation documentation, the included AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount may already be certified for power supply components, exempting them from additional technical testing.
Other Requirements in Addition to Safety Standards
Aside from safety certifications, other applicable standards and regulatory compliance may be necessary.
Here, we introduce only a few, but in recent years, compliance related to “energy regulations” (power efficiency standards) has increasingly become mandatory. Are you underestimating overseas market entry by thinking “as long as we have safety certifications, we’re good to go”?
In fact, more countries are now legally introducing new energy-saving regulations. These apply to AC/DC Power Adapters — Desktop & Wall-Mount and other designated equipment.
For example, in North America, many assume the “UL mark” for safety certification is sufficient. But that’s not entirely true. In the US, there’s the DOE regulation, and in Canada, the NRCAN regulation. Separate from safety certifications, these require additional compliance, so please be cautious.
